Thank you to all who generously responded to Fr. David’s invitation to feed those most in need within our community. Since 95% of the food bags were distributed in advance, food donations arriving as early as the next day. It is so inspiring to see people who would not be here for the collection make the time to drop off their donations prior to traveling.
The SJB food donations increased again this year. We delivered over 450 boxes and bags of nonperishable food to St. Camillus’ Food Pantry, and over 100 boxes and bags to the Midcounty United Ministries (MUM) Food Pantry. If you forgot to bring in your food donation, it is never too late.
Thank you also to those who helped sort, pack, and deliver the food. We examined each donation to ensure the expiration date had not passed, then sorted and packed each box or bag with like items, loaded them into the vans and other vehicles, handed them off to volunteers at St. Camillus who sorted and shelved the items in their food pantry.
Any food that was not delivered to St. Camillus will be donated to the Midcounty United Ministries food pantry. MUM's pantry is dedicated to the memory of Montgomery County Police Capt. Joseph Mattingly Jr., who strongly supported community service in the mid-county area before his death in 2003. Additionally, MUM operates a mobile food pantry serving the community on Sundays.
